Washington Redskins NFL Jerseys news | Larry Johnson gets start as Redskins host Ravens

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Last week, it was Clinton Portis. Now Larry Johnson has a turn at the feature role in the crowded competition for playing time in the Washington Redskins (shop Washington Redskins NFL Jerseys with clearance price from www.0595b.com now) backfield.

Johnson will start Saturday night’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens as coach Mike Shanahan continues to sort out how best to handle a trio of older running backs out to prove they’re not past their prime.

“Larry’s been very consistent,” Shanahan said, “but I do see a sense of urgency this week. He’s going to get an opportunity to showcase his talents.”

The third back in the veteran mix is Willie Parker, who will get to run with the first unit in next week’s game against the New York Jets.

“We will get a chance to see these guys in game situations,” Shanahan said. “We have had a chance to evaluate them in practice, but it is always a little hard to evaluate backs when people are not tackling them.”

Johnson will turn 31 in November, Parker will turn 30 in November, and Portis hits 29 on the first day of September. Johnson’s last 1,000-yard season came in 2006, when he piled up 1,789 yards with Kansas City. Parker last hit the four-digit mark in 2007, gaining 1,316 with Pittsburgh. Portis ran for 1,487 with the Redskins two years ago, but he missed half of last season with a concussion.

The additions of Johnson and Parker have put Portis on notice that he’s not irreplaceable. Although he entered training camp at the top of the depth chart, he had to play more than his usual token amount in the first preseason game, carrying six times for 22 yards.

Johnson and Parker sat out the first game, waiting their turns. For Johnson, it’s a chance to show he still has something left after declining performance and off-the-field issues led to his departure last year from the Chiefs.

“My body’s still fresh and young,” Johnson said. “People who sit on the couch, when they hit their 30s, they give up on the things that they can do (or) they used to do when they were 21. Being an athlete, you’re year-round working out and doing the things you need to do to keep yourself that way, and so being 30 doesn’t really change anything.”

Both the Ravens and Redskins got off to good preseason starts last week. Joe Flacco led two scoring drives in Baltimore’s win over Carolina, and Donovan McNabb threw a touchdown pass in his Washington debut in a victory over Buffalo.

The second game is usually more telling, with starters on both sides seeing more action. There’s also the annual debate as to whether these two teams have an actual rivalry—or if they’re just neighbors who get together every now and then. The Redskins barely broached the topic this week, but Baltimore coach John Harbaugh tried to talk it up a little.

“When you get on the field and you look over there and you see the burgundy and gold, and you see that that’s the team you’re playing, the competitive juices start flowing,” Harbaugh said, “and I’m sure they will for them, too.”

Agent, coach: Favre will play if ankle is healthy | NFL News

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Brett Favre’s (shop Brett Favre nfl jerseys now) flip-flopping is at full throttle, the surest sign yet that training camp is under way in Minnesota.

Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, said Wednesday that the veteran quarterback plans to return to the team if he is healthy. The 40-year-old Favre is still rehabbing his surgically repaired left ankle that he injured in the NFC title game loss at New Orleans.

“I know it’s a decision that he wrestles with,” Bevell said after a morning practice as Favre was throwing the ball around with high school students in Mississippi. “He’s a great player. He’s a great competitor. He mulls things over. He’s an emotional guy. So he thinks things through long and hard and takes his time with his decision. So I’m not surprised that things started to come out. We just have to wait and see.”

A day earlier, Favre texted some teammates and Vikings officials to say that his ankle was not healing like he had hoped and that he planned to retire. Favre denied sending any such messages and there was no explanation for the discrepancy.

Bevell, who became close friends with Favre during three years as his quarterbacks coach in Green Bay, said he has spoken to Favre recently, but not in the last 24 hours. He said it’s been his understanding that if Favre’s ankle heals, he will return to play for the Vikings this season.

“That’s what I’ve been getting all along,” Bevell said.

Cook told The Associated Press that Favre will visit his surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, next week for an evaluation.

“He’s working out really hard and everything seems to indicate that if he is healthy and can contribute and play at the level that he has become accustomed to, he will play,” Cook said.

The two-year, $25 million contract Favre signed last year calls for him to make $13 million this season. Cook said there have been no negotiations on any adjustments to the deal.

“If they want to reward him, nobody’s going to walk away from that,” Cook said. “But it’s not a factor in his decision.”

Outside Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Miss., Favre told reporters his decision is “not about the money.” He also said he has been in touch with the team and “they know what’s going on with me.”

On Tuesday, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that Favre had contacted teammates and team officials to tell them his ankle was not healing well enough and that he wasn’t going to return for a second season in Minnesota. Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe confirmed the report, saying Favre “told a couple guys on our team he’s going to retire.”

Shiancoe said Wednesday he still had not heard from Favre directly and declined further comment.

The drama is nothing new for the Vikings (shop Minnesota Vikings nfl jerseys now), who have been answering questions about Favre’s intentions for three years. Favre told the Vikings just before training camp last year that he was staying retired, only to change his mind and join the team before its second preseason game.

An entire advertising campaign has been built around his indecision and his teammates have become accustomed to hourly changes in his status.

“It’s been about three years now I’ve been getting asked the Brett Favre questions,” said a grinning Tarvaris Jackson, who would take over as the starter if Favre does not return. “It’s kind of part of my life now. I actually might miss it.”

Favre (shop Brett Favre nfl jerseys now) has considered retiring every summer since 2002. The famous waffling helped prompt the Packers to trade him to the Jets in 2008. After a so-so season in New York, he announced his retirement in early 2009 for the second time, then wound up signing with the Vikings.

He had one of his best seasons last year, with career bests in completion percentage (68.4), quarterback rating (107.2) and fewest interceptions (7), while throwing for 33 TDs and 4,202 yards to lead the Vikings (12-4) to an NFC North title. Most people around the NFL figured he’ll come back for another run at what would be a third Super Bowl appearance.

“He is an emotional guy. He does tell you how he’s feeling. He is very honest,” Bevell said. “That’s what I love about him and that’s what a lot of people love about him. Sometimes it serves him well, sometimes it doesn’t.”

Like the rest of the league, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he was taking a “wait and hear” approach to the latest twist in the Favre saga.

“Brett Favre (shop Brett Favre nfl jerseys now) is great for our game. And I think the passion he has for the game is extraordinary,” he said. “I think we all love to see him play, but we want him to do what’s best for him at the end of the day.”

Same goes for Drew Brees, whose Saints play the Vikings (shop Minnesota Vikings nfl jerseys now)in the NFL season opener on Sept. 9.

“Haven’t we all seen it before?” Brees said. “I’m not going to believe it until he doesn’t walk out of the tunnel on Sept. 9.”

Favre: No deadline for decision |NFL Jerseys

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Brett Favre (who’s NFL jerseys  sale in top 20)shared a laugh with Brad Childress about the two of them butting heads over the direction of the offense during a recent visit the Minnesota Vikings  (the team that sale NFL jerseys  in  top ten)  coach made to Hattiesburg, Miss.

What Favre didn’t share with Childress is any decision about his future.

Favre told USA Today on Tuesday that Childress stopped to visit him on his way home from vacation in Florida. The two chatted about a lot of things, but no deadline was imposed for the quarterback to announce a decision about returning for a 20th NFL season.

“Our visit was great,” Favre told the newspaper. “I think the world of him (and) his patience. He and I joked about how there were some rocky times (between them) last year. … We’re both competitors, that happens.”

Favre and Childress had a very public spat in December last season after the two of them argued over play-calling in a loss at Carolina. They resolved their differences and the Vikings  (the team that sale NFL jerseys  in  top ten) advanced to the NFC title game, where they lost in overtime.

Favre injured his ankle in that game and had surgery on it earlier this summer and has been throwing to receivers at Oak Grove High School near his home while to test it out.

“After almost nine weeks, it’s not where I would like it to be, but I’m working at it,” he said. “Maybe it never gets to where I want it to be. Forty years old … three surgeries … that’s all you need to know.”

He will turn 41 in October and is coming off one of the best seasons of his brilliant career. But Childress has repeatedly said he will not put any pressure on Favre to make a decision, saying that he would be fine with a similar scenario to last year. Favre skipped the first two weeks of training camp last year and joined the team after the first preseason game.

The Timeless NFL jersey

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Welcome to 0595b.com

You will find that there are die hard Lions fans live with the good times and the bad times everywhere.

During the 1996 season Barry Sanders collected his third career rushing title by gaining 1,553 yards. Sanders became the only player in NFL history to rush for over 1,500 yards in 3 consecutive years. Mitchell and Ness has recreated his 1996 jersey. Which is the Mitchell & Ness Detroit Lions 1996 Barry Sanders # 20 Replica Throwback Jersey, therefore this NFL jersey is very memorable, as well as a brilliant symbol.

Arizona Cardinals #11 Larry FITZGERALD WHITE nfl Jersey

Speaking of this NFL jersey to Detroit Lions, what worth mentioning is that which is made from a white textured mesh, Sanders name and number has been cut from royal tackle twill. In addition, The NFL ® shield patch is developed from twill embroidery and placed on the front of the collar. It’s no less among the numerous NFL jerseys.

Was adding L.T. a good move?

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

wlecome to 0595b.com

Now that LaDainian Tomlinson has signed with the New York Jets, it leaves us almost six months of time to speculate on whether the move will pay off. There’s no time like now to get started.

NFL Network analysts Jamie Dukes and Rod Woodson took up the topic Monday on NFL Total Access. Both agreed that the Jets represent an ideal situation for Tomlinson. Woodson, however, sees the player the Jets allowed to leave — Thomas Jones — as the better option.

“I don’t think it’s a great move on the team’s part,” Woodson said. “I think the player that has more left in the tank — which is funny to say, because he has a year more in the league — is Thomas Jones. That being said, it’s a good move by L.T.

“At least going to the Jets, he has an opportunity to take the ball a little bit more. In his mind, I think he wants to show everybody — especially the San Diego Chargers — he can play at a high level.”

Raiders acquire Wimbley from Browns

Monday, March 15th, 2010

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)—The Oakland Raiders bolstered their pass rush Sunday by acquiring former first-round pick Kamerion Wimbley(notes) from the Cleveland Browns for an undisclosed draft pick.

Oakland senior executive John Herrera confirmed the deal, saying Oakland gave up a pick it had acquired in a previous deal. The Raiders had acquired a third-round pick from New England last summer in a deal for Derrick Burgess(notes).

“This gives us a guy who has been a strong presence as a pass rusher,” Herrera said. “He has been very productive.”

The Browns traded two former first-round picks Sunday, confirming a deal that sent quarterback 2007 first-rounder Brady Quinn(notes) to the Denver Broncos about two hours before Oakland announced it had picked up Wimbley.

The Browns’ decision to deal Wimbley was a bit of a surprise. Last season, he began to show flashes of being the kind of player he was when he recorded 11 sacks in his rookie year.

The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder was drafted in the first round out of Florida State in 2006. He had 6 1/2 sacks and 48 tackles in 15 games last season and has 26.5 sacks in his career.

Cleveland may use one of its high draft picks to address its pass rush.

Wimbley becomes the fourth former first-round pick on Oakland’s defense, joining defensive end Richard Seymour(notes), cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha(notes) and safety Michael Huff(notes).

The Raiders previously had released defensive end Greg Ellis(notes), who tied for the team lead in sacks last season with seven.

Wimbley can play either end or outside linebacker. The Raiders used second-year player Trevor Scott(notes) in that role last season as an outside linebacker/third-down pass rusher. Scott had seven sacks in that role.

Wimbley is the first player Oakland has added from another organization since the start of free agency earlier this month. The Raiders had previously cut four veterans—Ellis, running back Justin Fargas(notes), receiver Javon Walker(notes) and defensive tackle Gerard Warren(notes).

Oakland also re-signed kicker Sebastian Janikowski(notes) before he could become a free agent, used the franchise tag on Seymour and re-signed free agent offensive lineman Khalif Barnes(notes).

Childress: Vikings would be clear with L.T. about role

Monday, March 15th, 2010

wlecom to 0595b.com

For the first time, the Vikings have publicly discussed LaDainian Tomlinson’s reported visit to Minnesota on Thursday.

Star-Tribune beat reporter Judd Zulgad posted a Tweet on Wednesday from Vikings coach Brad Childress on the fact that Tomlinson joining the team would be as a backup to Adrian Peterson.

“I would think he knows that, but I always want to over-communicate clarity so we won’t hopscotch around that [topic],” Childress said.

Zulgad also reported Wednesday that if an agreement on playing time and money can be reached, Tomlinson could be a Viking soon.

With Chester Taylor and Thomas Jones now off the market, it appears Tomlinson’s value to teams is closely tied to his willingness to take a non-featured role. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora told fans during a live chat Wednesday morning that Tomlinson should be clear on his market value.

“It’s going to be this type of role no matter where he goes,” La Canfora noted. “If he’s all about being a part of a winner, this is a great spot to be (assuming Favre is back). He could extend his career as a third-down back if he excels. It makes a lot of sense to me.”
